The best day to close on your new home...or refinance is the last day of the month. At a closing, borrowers pay mortgage interest to the end of the current month. By making the closing at the end of the month, you keep closing costs down. Make sure to ask for a no-cost, or low-cost mortgage with no junk fees.

So much depends on your credit rating, so why not check it from time to time for discrepancies or blemishes. If you’re curious about your credit history, you can order a copy of your report by calling the three main national credit reporting agencies: Equifax (800) 685-1111; TRW (800)392-1122, or Trans Union (317) 408-1050. The cost of the reports are nominal.
